Goal Setting To Achieve Your Fitness Goals

Goals drive direction. Not having one, is like jumping in the car and not knowing where we're going. It's very difficult to arrive at our intended destination, it's not impossible, but it will be difficult. 

You'll never achieve your goals if they aren't:

S - Specific
M - Measurable
A - Achievable
R - Realistic
T - Time bound

This might sound idealistic to some, but in reality we usually end up not sticking to the goals we aren't serious about. So if you're serious and ready to take charge of your fitness goals, here's how you can achieve them with these few simple tips.

TIP ONE: Pick a goal that means something to you

When choosing a goal, we suggest choosing something that is slightly challenging to achieve. But most importantly, pick a goal that means something to you. 

If you're just going along with your mates and training with them to achieve whatever goals that they've set, it won't mean anything to you even when you achieve it. Choose something that means something and that you'll put your heart and soul into. When you do achieve it, you'll feel good about yourself. You'll get that uplifting feeling when you're at the gym training towards your goal, what a better feeling than to feel fired up about a goal you're passionate about. 

TIP TWO: Write your goals down

Goals are the ultimate power to unlocking your potential. So here are some ways you can keep yourself accountable to it:

  • Write it down
  • Tell and remind yourself what that goal is
  • Tell your friends and close ones about it 

The more you're reminded about it, the more likely that you'll stick to it. Pick a goal, make a plan, tell others about it and do the work.

TIP THREE: Do the work

It's all good to plan out the best course of action to strive towards your goal, however, the most important step is to take action. Doing the work means staying the course, being patiently consistent and allow the results to amplify out in time. 

The two biggest goal killers are setting goals that are too high, and not giving our plan enough time to play out. I'm sure most of us can relate to goals we've carried out for about two or three weeks, going super hard and then we accidentally slip back into our old habits during the weekend. When this happens, we try to double down on training and nutrition which only puts ourselves into unnecessary physical and emotional stress.

There's nothing wrong with setting high expectations and challenging goals, however, they're more likely than not to fail because they're not sustainable. 

To put this simply, whenever you're struggling to stick to the plan you've made reflect by asking yourself if this goal is:

S - Specific
M - Measurable
A - Achievable
R - Realistic
T - Time Bound
